What does NIE stand for?
NIE is the acronym for Newspaper In Education. |
What is NIE?
Newspaper In Education is a nationwide program to help students develop a newspaper reading habit. Reading the newspaper on a regular basis can help improve literacy and basic skills, develop lifelong learning and promote citizenship. The NIE Program at the Bucks County Courier Times and The Intelligencer provide nearly 2 million newspapers yearly, curriculum guides, thematic units, contests for students and teacher workshops. |
Who can participate in NIE?
All classes in Bucks County and the surrounding areas are welcome to participate by receiving newspapers to use for educational purposes. Print copies of the Courier Times can be delivered to all schools in the Lower Bucks County area or to a teacher’s home if the educator teaches outside of our circulation area. Print copies of The Intelligencer can be delivered to schools in Middle and Upper Bucks and Eastern Montgomery. The online digital edition is available to interested teachers who live and teach outside the delivery area. |
What does it cost to participate in the NIE program?
There is no charge for classes that receive newspapers on a regular basis – at least once a week. Through the NIE Sponsorship Program local businesses and subscribers donate funds to provide the discounted NIE copies to participating schools. |
How many days of the week can my class receive newspapers?
You may order one day a week, several days a week or daily. |
Are both print copies of the newspaper and the online digital edition available for my classroom?

If you only have a few computers in the classroom, you may order a classroom set of print copies on one or more days of the week and access to the digital edition for the other days. |
Are Sunday newspapers available for classrooms?
